Career Ambassadors for Social Mobility Programme

Empowering HKU students to lead, mentor, and inspire social mobility.

Empowering Students as Career Mentors

The Career Ambassadors for Social Mobility Programme adopts an innovative train-the-trainer approach. HKU undergraduate Career Ambassadors from diverse backgrounds receive expert training in social mobility, youth engagement, and career planning. Together, they design and deliver meaningful career exploration activities for secondary school students, broadening horizons and fostering growth for all involved.

Train-the-Trainer Approach: Empowering Student Leaders

At the core of our programme is a robust train-the-trainer framework, supporting the cohort with structured, expert-led training. This includes:

  • Workshops by Social Mobility & Youth Engagement Professionals: Interactive sessions led by experienced practitioners in social mobility and youth development.

  • Training from CEDARS Careers’ staff: Practical guidance on career planning, employer engagement strategies, and effective mentoring.

This foundation develops Career Ambassadors’ skills in leadership, youth mentoring, career guidance, and programme delivery.

Learning by Doing, Leading by Example

Following training, Career Ambassadors work in interdisciplinary teams to co-create and implement impactful activities:

  • Interactive career skills workshops and empowerment sessions

  • University tours introducing secondary school students to HKU campus

  • Ambassador sharing sessions, where Career Ambassadors share their own academic and personal journeys

  • Company visits, allowing real exposure to workplace environments

  • Alumni sharing and career discovery activities

Through these experiences, Career Ambassadors put learning into action, develop their own leadership abilities, and support the aspirations of secondary school students from various backgrounds.

Shared Growth and Lasting Impact

This student-led, collaborative model develops confident, empathetic career leaders and nurtures accountability, creativity, and community service. Secondary school students benefit from new opportunities and inspiring mentorship, whilst Career Ambassadors gain practical experience and transferable skills for their own studies and future careers.
